The significance of the Pandharpur Wari
The wari or the procession is not just a mere journey but a celebration of our rich Hindu culture and tradition. It is an 800-year-old tradition and it begins in the month of Asadh.
It is organized by the Wari Sampradayas (sects) that is supported by the local authorities. The pilgrims indulge in daily rituals, bhajans, kirtans and perform prayers. There are temporary shelters, camps and several community halls that are set up for the warkaris along the route. Medical camps and emergency services are also available along the way.
Countless saffron flags flutter in the air as men don their colorful turbans and white Gandhi caps. The sounds of veena, mridangam, and other traditional instruments resonate through the procession. Women gracefully balance pots of water or tulsi plants on their heads. Each stop along the way is beautifully adorned with flowers and ornaments, while the loud and melodious chanting of pilgrims fills the path.
